what meets the eye and touches the heart

My paintings using acrylics and oils (often both in the same painting) depict my journey both to places in the world and in my imagination. These are pictures of my experiences over time and place. I look for images that are dramatic, colorful, amusing or intriguing and have some emotional connection for me. I then attempt to create an atmospheric quality with my handling of light and shadow.
I also create art using the ancient method of encaustic painting. Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. My pieces are abstract, textured and colorful and some include inlaid pieces of worked silver or semi-precious stones (I was a jeweler at one time) I have always been intrigued by doorways and other portals and am exploring them in my latest encaustics.
