Current Show: Carolyn Gilligan's Sea Meets Rocks and Ken Weir’s Figurative Stories May presents two radically different types of images--water washed rock strewn ocean shores depicted in spontaneous yet sure watercolors (Carolyn Gilligan) and figurative scenes of women (and a man) imbued with suspense, beauty, charm and joy (Ken Weir). Carolyn's watercolors have a beautiful sense of atmosphere, natural landscape and the light touch of an inventive watercolorist. Ken's humanistic paintings invite the viewer to participate in a decision or moment when something profound is about to happen or has happened. What happens is up to the viewer. The show will be on display May 2 - 25th at the Cooperative Gallery 213 State St. Binghamton. Regular hours are Fridays 3-6 pm and Saturdays 12-4 pm and by appointment. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ An artist's talk will be held on Thursday, May 16th at 7:00 PM.The talk will pit two artistic approaches against one another--intuition versus design. We all hold these two modes within us. Do we act in a carefree manner or do we plot the perfect plan? Carolyn who works in water colors excels in letting her intuition guide her paintbrush. Ken, an engineer by trade, passes intuition through a scaffold of design principles before applying paint to his canvas. Their methods will be described. Everyone who attends will be encouraged to judge whether art is best served by expressionism or design. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The Cooperative Gallery 213 is a popular stop on the First Friday Art Walk and a member of the Gorgeous Washington Association.
