what meets the eye and touches the imagination
I want my paintings to communicate meaning unique to each viewer through my use of color, texture and a suggestion of reality. I hope my audience will see something of interest and spend time enjoying the experience of looking.
Some of my artwork is created using the ancient method of encaustic painting. Encaustic painting also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. My pieces have a variety of collage elements and some include inlaid pieces of worked silver or semi-precious stones (I was a jeweler at one time). I have also worked in acrylic and collage on paper. My latest exploration is of cold wax mixed into oil paints and applied with brayers, squeegees, and palette knives. These paintings are built up of a number of layers with a variety of techniques used to expose the various layers and create texture.
